This section explains how to configure IPMI for out-of-band management on Arrow appliance platforms.
This section explains how to configure IPMI (Intelligent Platform Management Interface) for out-of-band management on Arrow appliance platforms running Qumulo Core.
Overview
All Arrow appliance platforms include an IPMI baseboard management controller (BMC) that provides:
- Remote power control (power on, power off, reset)
- KVM-over-IP console access
- Hardware monitoring (temperatures, voltages, fan speeds)
- Event logging and alerting
- Virtual media support for remote OS installation
Accessing IPMI
Initial Configuration
During initial setup, configure IPMI networking:
- Connect a monitor and keyboard to the node, or access the BIOS setup during boot.
- Navigate to the IPMI configuration settings.
- Configure the following:
- IP address (static recommended for management networks)
- Subnet mask
- Default gateway
- VLAN ID (if applicable)
Default Credentials
Change the default IPMI password immediately after initial configuration for security.
The default IPMI credentials vary by platform. Refer to the documentation provided with your hardware.
Web Interface Access
After network configuration:
- Open a web browser and navigate to the IPMI IP address.
- Log in with your credentials.
- Access the remote console, power controls, and system monitoring.
IPMI Best Practices
-
Dedicated Management Network: Place IPMI interfaces on a dedicated, isolated management network.
-
Strong Passwords: Use strong, unique passwords for all IPMI accounts.
-
Firmware Updates: Keep IPMI/BMC firmware updated to the latest version for security and compatibility.
-
Access Control: Limit IPMI access to authorized administrators only.
-
HTTPS: Enable HTTPS for web interface access.
