This section explains how to create and configure a Qumulo cluster on HPE Alletra and Edge Accelerator platforms.
This section explains how to create and configure a Qumulo cluster on HPE Alletra and Edge Accelerator platforms.
Prerequisites
Before creating a cluster, ensure that:
- All nodes are racked and cabled according to HPE specifications
- Out-of-band management (iLO) is configured on each node
- Network switches are configured for your environment
- You have the Qumulo Core USB installer or network boot configured
For instructions on creating a USB installer, see Creating a Qumulo Core USB Drive Installer.
Step 1: Verify Your Node
-
Shut down your node and connect a display, a keyboard, and a mouse to it.
-
Plug the Qumulo Core USB Drive Installer into an available USB port on the node and then press the power button.
Step 2: Boot from Qumulo Core Installer
-
On the HPE Alletra boot screen, press F11.
Note
The Boot Menu page might take a few minutes to appear. -
On the Boot Menu page, to perform a one-time boot, do one of the following:
-
If the Legacy BIOS One-Time Boot Menu option is available, click it.
-
If the Legacy BIOS One-Time Boot Menu option is unavailable, click Generic USB Boot and continue to run the Field Verification Tool (FVT).
-
-
In the Question dialog box, click OK.
Note
The Default Boot Override Options page might take a few minutes to appear. -
In the Default Boot Override Options menu, select 2) One Time Boot to USB DriveKey.
Step 3: Run the Field Verification Tool (FVT)
After the node reboots, the Qumulo Installer runs automatically.
-
Choose [1] Factory reset (DESTROYS ALL DATA).
-
To perform a clean installation of Qumulo Core on your node, type
DESTROY ALL DATA(case-sensitive). -
Review the verification results and consider the following before proceeding with the installation.
-
If the FVT Passed! message appears, select [1] Install Qumulo Core.
-
If FAIL messages appear, use one of the following resolutions.
-
-
When the FVT passes all checks, select [1] Install Qumulo Core.
Fixable Issues During Installation
If the FVT finds fixable issues, it prompts you to auto-correct any detected issues. Issues that the FVT can auto-correct include:
- BIOS Configuration
- Drive firmware
- NVMe sector size
- NIC mode
- NIC firmware
- Boot order
-
To attempt auto-correction, select [1] Run FVT Flash. This will try to fix issues then reboot.
If the fixes are successful, the FVT reboots the node automatically.
-
To re-attempt verification, boot using the Qumulo Core USB Drive Installer and continue the installation.
Non-Fixable Issues
If the FVT is unable to auto-correct any issues, the message Not fixable issues were detected. appears, providing reasons for failure.
For help with troubleshooting your node, contact the Qumulo Care Team.
Step 4: Create the Cluster
After installing Qumulo Core on all nodes:
-
Note the IP address displayed on each node’s console after installation.
-
Open a web browser and navigate to the IP address of any node.
-
Follow the cluster creation wizard to:
- Name your cluster
- Configure the admin password
- Add all nodes to the cluster
- Configure network settings
Step 5: Configure Cluster Settings
After the cluster is created:
-
Log in to the Qumulo Web UI.
-
Configure the following settings as needed:
- DNS servers
- NTP servers
- SMB and NFS exports
- Active Directory integration
- LDAP configuration
For detailed configuration instructions, see the Qumulo On-Premises Administrator Guide.
