This section explains how to configure out-of-band management (iLO) for HPE Alletra and Edge Accelerator platforms running Qumulo Core.
HPE Alletra and Edge Accelerator platforms include HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) for out-of-band management. iLO allows you to monitor, manage, and troubleshoot servers remotely, independent of the operating system.
Overview
iLO enables you to:
- Power on, power off, and reboot servers remotely
- Access the server console via remote console
- Mount virtual media for OS installation
- Monitor hardware health and sensors
- Update firmware
Wiring the Out-of-Band Management Network
The iLO port is a dedicated 1GbE RJ-45 management port located on the rear panel of each HPE server, typically labeled “iLO” and positioned near the other network ports.
Network Requirements
- Connect each node’s iLO port to a dedicated out-of-band management switch
- Use a separate network (VLAN or physical) from your data network
- Ensure the management network is accessible from your administrative workstations
Why Use a Dedicated Management Network?
Separating iLO traffic from your data network provides:
- Reliable access: Manage nodes even when the data network is down or under heavy load
- Security isolation: Limit access to management interfaces
- Troubleshooting capability: Access the console during network configuration changes
IP Address Assignment
Each iLO port requires its own IP address. You can configure iLO networking via:
- DHCP: iLO obtains an address automatically (check your DHCP server for the assigned address)
- Static IP: Configure manually through the iLO setup screen during initial boot (press F9 during POST)
